“Oink! Oink! Oink! Oink!” “Maki-baka, wag mag-baboy!” The angry shouts of thousands rippled across the Quirino Grandstand and well into the minds and hearts of millions of Filipinos. Passion was thick in the air as the number of people multiplied by the hour, each drawn to Luneta to lend their voice to the rising clamor of the protesters. The day was August 26; the setting was the touted million-people march in Luneta. The people and groups who came were diverse, but their goal was one and clear: to put an end to the well-intended but heavily misused Priority Development Assistance Fund or PDAF, also infamously known as the pork barrel.
